This week, LeVino Jones attended the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy (GCCA) Change Maker’s Breakfast. GCCA is an organization which strives to help children who have been through physical and/or sexual abuse. The members of GCCA find professionals to work with children through means of prevention, intervention, and treatment guiding them through recovery. By providing a chance for the children to break the silence and find help in a trusting adult, this organization effectively changes the lives of many children burdened with abuse. At the Change Maker’s Breakfast, Olympian Margaret Hoelzer shared her experience with abuse as a child. Margaret’s story moved the audience to feel the range of emotions she experienced as a young child. By reaching out to others and finding a child advocacy group near her hometown, she put her energy towards her lifelong passion of swimming. This passion led Margaret down an Olympic path and 3 Olympic medals in swimming. LeVino Jones is working with GCCA to create a Family Protection Center for DeKalb County due for completion Winter 2014. The center will provide children a safe place to go to share their stories and overcome the abuse such as Margaret proved possible. After hearing the moving sentiments, we are even happier to be working with GCCA on this project supporting the efforts of this important group in DeKalb and Fulton County.
