Providing ample daylighting in healthcare facilities has been proven to improve the moods of staff and patients as well as reduce stress levels. There are many strategies to improve daylighting. Armstrong has recently shed light on an approach that is often overlooked: flooring materials. Using flooring that has an increased reflectance value allows more artificial and natural light to bounce off the floor and onto other surfaces, thereby illuminating the space more evenly and efficiently. This is not only beneficial to patients and staff, but it also allows facilities to rely less on electricity. This reduces operating costs and is sustainable.
